New York City (Unsaid Things)
I never know how to start these but year long time no blog. I feel like everybody has that one place they they adopt as like a second home, that will always hold a place in their heart. Mines always been the big apple.
I’ve been very fortunate enough to go there 3 times in the span of the last two years. And the best way I can vaguely describe it is it’s a movie that brings out a feeling. you literally feel New York.
It’s always been a place that leaves me feeling motivated and inspired, that I can achieve anything.
Every time your there you always notice or find something new to before whether it be a restaurant, a show, a park, an activity. But at the same time the things that are not new to you never get old.
Each time I’ve traveled to New York I’ve been at different stages in my life, and each time it’s still a shock to me that I’m there because I always treat every time like it’s my last. Lord knows I’ve had some downs in the past few years but this city has been like beacon of hope for me that I’m on the right track. It’s like when Alicia keys says “ima make it by any means I got a pocket full of dreams baby I’m from NEW YORKKKK, concrete jungle where dreams are made of there’s nothing you can’t do, these streets will make you feel brand new, these lights will inspire you.”
I fully get it, and if you’ve been too then you will as well. I think travelling is very important, the world wasn’t meant to be lived in one place, it’s good to experience different cultures and the memories you make are priceless because they’re timeless.
New York has inspired me to heal, it’s inspired me be fearless, it’s inspired me to never give up on my dreams, it’s inspired me to grateful for what I do have and if you can take something from this blog, ‘if anybody’s listening’ as L’s would say. It’s that you should make memories because one day when your old and grey that’s all you’ll have, and if there’s one way to not let time pass you by… it’s travelling, you learn so much about yourself, it doesn’t have to be the other side of the world either. You need things to remind you who you are. Things you didn’t even know you were looking for.
I believe that our experiences and our environment and better yet relationships are what mould who we become. How good your life is will depend on the relationships you have with the people in your life, do you have family who love you, do you have friends who want the best for you, do you have a partner who values you, do you have colleagues who enjoy working with you day in day out. Your not gonna get on with everyone I don’t think your meant to. But as I’ve reached tail end of my twenties, I’ve reached a sense of gratitude that only came from having the self awareness to realise that it’s upto me to nurture those relationships. It’s up to me to take none of them for granted because as much as I’ve gained I’ve lost people to. People I I wish had stayed, people I had planned to be in my future. But if you wanna God laugh, tell him your plans.
Those experiences propelled me forward and year on year I see growth in myself whether that be spiritually emotionally financially physically and that all comes from having positive relationships with whether it’s the concierge that helps me take my bags to my hotel room or the cinema dates with my niece.
It’s all the same, how happy you are depends on the relationships you have with others, when you find this out you also begin to protect your energy and not let anyone who’s not interested in having a positive relationship with you stick around too long.
‘Accept what is, let go what was, and have faith of what is to come.’
